Job interviews

The interview isn't a one sided process it should be a free flowing two way conversation between two people. Although of course the main reason for you being there in the first place is for the employer to decide if you are a suitable candidate for the position by asking you questions, you too have to decide if the position is right for you.

Therefore the conversation should be two sided with you answering the relevant questions asked and by asking questions your self. It is important not only to have the qualifications and experience needed for the position but also that you have self confidence and determination.

Sell yourself to the interviewer by answering questions in a brief, relaxed and confident manner while also not being afraid to ask questions of your own.

If you prepared well for the interview and researched the company well you can use this knowledge as a basis for some of your questions.

Questions you could ask include

* What type of person are you looking for to fill the position?

* What kind of training does the company provide?

* What are the opportunities for advancement within the company?

* When do you expect to choose a candidate for this position?

* How would you describe the working environment in the company?

* What would your expectations be of me in the first 6 months?

* What are the specific criteria for measuring my success in the position?

* What are the company's expectations for growth in the coming year?

* What are the company's sales targets?

* What are some of the major challenges that the business will face over the next 12 months?

* What is the least satisfactory aspect of the company?

* How often does the company offer promotions from within?

* What makes this company different from its competitors?

* How many would I share a workspace with?

* Why is this position open, if someone left why did they leave?

* What is your supervisory style?

* Ask about potential peers, subordinates and superiors within the company.

* Ask questions about the services or products of the company.

* Ask about duties and obligations within the company .

Remember that by asking questions of the interviewer it shows that you are taking an active interest and of course any questions relating the what the company offers or has achieved in the past will show that you care enough to have done your home work beforehand.
